A photo from my first Munro hike (Ben Lawers) on the morning of January 1st, 2003. A solo trip and quite a learning experience about the conditions to be found on Scottish Mountains. The trail head was chilly and damp, but otherwise clear and windless. The summit however, featured 75mph winds, ice/snow which felt like a sandblaster on exposed skin, and about 50 feet of visibility. This hike is also remembered as "the day I REALLY learned how to use my map and compass".
