A few days ago marked the first anniversary of the largest forest fire in the recorded history of the State of Colorado. At 4pm on June 8, 2002, the first report of the fire came in to area agencies. The Hayman Burn consumed 137,760 acres, 133 mountain homes, 466 "outbuildings" and threatened numerous historic landmarks.

The greatest tragedy of this burn is that it was started by a Forest Service employee!
