We stopped and asked for some crane watching tips in Sutherland, Nebraska. At a reservoir south of town we saw a small flock of Snow geese crusing in for a night on the water there. We were directed to take the Interstate to Hershey and then go north across both forks of the Platte and then turn east. We were told that we should see cranes in the farm fields and that the road would take us on into North Platte.

We still worried about the lack of birds and wondered if we might be too late to find them there. The Meadowlark here was one of the few "teasers" we saw until just before sunset.
